During the spring of 2005, I volunteered to serve the community on the Board of Education for Thornapple Kellogg Schools.

I volunteered because I enjoy helping to improve schools and providing service to my community.

While I was not selected to serve on the board at this time, I did receive more support than I expected.  Over 150 community members selected me as their preferred candidate.  This was a choice for one position on the board where three people were volunteering, including the person currently serving.

Overall, offering to serve the community in this way was a fantastic learning experience for me.  If you are interested in serving your community, I highly recommend you pursue opportunties as they present themselves.  I also recommend that if you have an idea for service that does not already have some position associated with it, that you take the initiative and serve.

Feel free to visit the links at the left to explore some of my thinking and positions during my candidacy.

Since the election, I have learned many new things.  After reading my responsed from my candidacy, I realize that I have learned much since the race, and have different answers to some of these questions.

What has not changed are the values I use to make decisions.  It takes not only a well understood value system, but also very good facts and logic to make good decisions.
