Check Your Credit Report for Free

Free Credit Report Law Now in Effect for Michigan

The federal law requiring the three credit reporting agencies to provide annual free credit reports is in the final stages of being phased in across the country. People in the Midwest portion of the country are now eligible for free annual credit reports from each of the agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Keeping an eye on your credit report is a good way to fight identity theft.

It has been suggested that one might order a free report once every four months from the individual agencies. Since each agency usually reports the same information, one would thus be getting an update more often than once a year as provided for in the law.

The three agencies have created a single web site to handle this process: www.annualcreditreport.com.

A FICO or credit score is only available for a fee.

They may also be accessed individually by phone at:

Experian: 1-888-397-3742

Equifax: 1-800-685-1111

TransUnion: 1-800-916-8800
