From the CMC President, Richard Green

Hello and welcome to the Custodial, Maintenance and Cafeteria website (CMC./MEA/NEA).

The CMC is a part of the Farmington/Farmington Hills community and has the responsibility to provide a clean, safe, and healthy environment for the students and staff of the Farmington Public School District. We currently have two hundred and six members in our unit and their dedication and pride in their work continue to make our District one of the Premier Districts in the State of Michigan. Our staff has experience ranging from recently hired to more than forty years and we continue to learn, grow, and expand on our abilities to perform and improve our function within the District. Through annual trainings, new product research and a cooperative relationship with the District Administrators combined with our interactions with the Community, parents, other staff and the students all help us to be more efficient at performing our job functions.

This staff understands that the education of our children is the first priority of any successful school district and we hope that through a continuing collaborative relationship with the parents and community we will be able to continue the necessary support to aid in providing that quality education to our children.

It is our sincere hope that you will find this website useful.

Sincerely,
Richard A. Green- President
Farmington C.M.C.-MEA/NEA

Julie Brubaker wins Dove award
(Story from Farmington Observer April 26, 2009)

"Julie Brubaker was awarded The Arc of Oakland County Dove Support Professional Award in a School Setting for 2009. Julie has been employed by Farmington Public Schools for more than 25 years, most recently as a building custodian at the Maxfield Training Center and as a transitional job site supervisor for two to three post-secondary students per year. Julie takes the time to get to know each of her students and values each student as an individual. Not only does she give them the opportunity to acquire job skills, she allows them to “grow” by giving them more responsibility and independence as they demonstrate appropriate skills. Julie stands out in Farmington Public Schools for her extraordinary dedication to make a difference to the students with whom she works. The Arc of Oakland County, Inc. (“The Arc”) is a non-profit organization funded in part by the United Way for Southeastern Michigan and generous individual donors. The Arc works directly with children and adults within all levels of intellectual and other related developmental disabilities and their families. They are advocates for the rights and full participation of people with intellectual and other related disabilities. The Arc works to improve the systems and support services, connect families and influence public policy. There were 23 different types of Dove Awards in 17 different categories, including Distinguished Service, The Presidents Award, Inclusion Leadership Award, as well as Employer of the Year and Provider of the Year to name a few. Three categories make up the 2009 Support Professionals Awards — Workshop, Residential and School Setting.
Julie was honored at the 39th Dove Award Presentation on March 27.

MEA Privatization Complaint Box

MEA Launches the Privatization Complaint Box. In order to balance the one-sided media coverage of privatization, the MEA has launched the Privatization Complaint Box, a service that allows school workers to file complaints about the shoddy work done by the privateers that replaced school employees. MEA receives these complaints often enough that an effort to collect them in an organized and searchable form is called for. The complaint box serves as a storehouse of complaints that are provided to answer media inquiries and to generate statistics to counter those published by conservative "think tanks." The complaints can also be used to put the school’s administration on notice that substandard work is not going unnoticed and that it is being held accountable for the decision to outsource this work.
