| Q |
Who decides how my PAC money is spent? |
| A |
MEA MEMBERS MAKE THE
DECISIONS! Local members sit on committees that analyze voting
records, questionnaires and positions on public education issues. Members
need to be involved in their local PAC and participate in the screening
and recommendation process. |
| Q |
Why should I get involved in politics? |
| A |
To PROTECT AND FIGHT
FOR YOU. Every decision is a political decision at either the
local, state or national level. With or without MEA member involvement,
there will be elections. Those elected will determine what kind of public
education and college system we have. Either the MEA will be on the
outside watching or MEA can participate tn the process to help shape
the outcome--for our members and students. |
| Q |
Are candidate positions on social issues considered in the recommendation
process? |
| A |
No. The screening
and recommendation process concentrates on education issues; it does not
include questions on social issues like gun control or reproductive freedom. |
| Q |
Why should I contribute PAC money in addition to my dues money? |
| A |
According to state and federal
law, ONLY VOLUNTARY (Non-dues) FUNDS COLLECTED AND DEPOSITED IN
A SEPARATE FUND (PAC) CAN BE USED FOR CAMPAIGNS. Your MEA-PAC
and NEA Fund for Children and Public Education contributions allow participation
in campaigns to ensure the election of pro-education candidates and incumbent
friends of education. |
| Q |
What if I can't afford to contribute $35 dollars? |
| A |
WHAT EVER YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE
WILL HELP us continue to elect public education supporters. You
have joined one of the most political proffessions because all decisions
affecting your job are made by elected officials. |
