Spot Light

This public art sculpture expresses and brings to life the four pillars of integrity, civility, honesty and respect. Each of these themes is represented on one of the four sides of the tile sculpture. These are the building blocks of a successful community.
This clay tile project involved the fourth and fifth graders at Kurtz Elementary school, under the guidance of their art teacher Denise Forrest, over the course of two years. These young artists created the drawings, transferred their images to clay, rolled and cut the clay tiles, and then glazed the clay tiles. This process involved two separate kiln firings, a bisque fire and a glaze fire. Then, each of the sides were put into place like pieces of a puzzle, grouted and assembled before being placed into the ground for permanent display.

Students pictured in the photo include: Carly Anderson, Andrea Shallman, Carson White, Andrew Benner, Cosmo Pappas.
