Our Local 1 teacher and candidate, Jennifer Haase of Warren Woods, won with an impressive victory in the Democratic primary for the 32nd  Michigan House Seat.  What make her numbers so impressive is that historically this has been a very Republican seat.  Jennifer received nearly an equal number of votes as the combined Republican candidates.

Presidential politics was also the focus of the NEA Convention in Washington, DC from July 1-6.  Democratic candidate Barack Obama spoke via satellite to the members after being formally endorsed by the NEA.  The Michigan delegation, as usual, gave generously to the NEA PAC.

The focus of Local 1 from now until November will be the November 5th election in order to elect the pro-education candidates we all need.
