Legislative Board Meeting
February 8, 2005
OLD BUSINESS
From Dr. Ted Peters
- New Members meeting cancelled due to lack of interest.
- PIE counsel is surveying each building about the
construction; the good, the bad; they want to hear from us.
- Take a moment to read and familiarize yourself with
Senate Bills #55 & 56.
This bill is trying to implement
statewide health insurance for all public school employees. Please click on the

- Bid Day Process-Ted wants to ask PIE to have the
bid-day.
- Simone Babridge accepted the MEA-RA Delegate position.

- Grievances are down to one page!
MEMBERSHIP / PAC-Gary
Collens
- Please, please, please, let Gary know when you have
changed your name.
- Dwayne Eason and Lisa Reeves are the Co-Chairs for the
PAC committee. Having attended the PAC, Bargaining and PR MEA Conference,
they presented information to the Legislative Board regarding the importance
of getting PAC contributions from our members.
- Potential Board Candidates- We need PAC dollars
to assist those candidates who are teacher friendly and kid smart. Elections
will be held on the 1st Tuesday in May.
- There will be a 4th vacancy on the
Board-Paul Cooper is stepping down July1st, he will not be on the May ballot.
- Majority of Board will be new, interesting dynamics. 6
out of 7 new Board members. We need everyone’s involvement to ensure a good
campaign. (Election Day is in May due to Federal Law changes.)
NEW BUSINESS
Nominations
- Treasurer- Kathy Mobbs, nominated
- NEA-RA Delegate-Dwayne Eason, nominated
- NEA-RA Delegate-Third World- Lisa Reeves, nominated
Nominations are open until
March 15th, 2005.
Webmaster-Christina Cardinal
- Presented to the Legislative Board the rationale to
purchase a new camcorder and printer. Ms. Cardinal urges that this would
greatly improve public relations. With the camcorder we would be able to
highlight the positive activities that are happening in the district. The
Leg. Board voted to purchase the camcorder with our contingency money.
- Gail Setter voted to be on the District Curriculum
Counsel
- Authorization for SEA President, Ted Peters to ask PIE
counsel to reinstitute Bid Day was voted on and approved.
BID DAY

Ted and Pat want to offer an easier and fairer way of conducting
bid-day. Please be aware that once you’ve bided, and awarded job, you won’t be
able to change your mind.
MEA BOARD ELECTIONS
·
The Legislative Board recommends Gerry
Faye, Cathy King, and
Lori Lindgren as MEA Board members for
re-elections.
