MESSA enrollment meeting August 31, 4:00 to 6:00As part of our new contract, TEA members will be insured through MESSA for medical insurance. This is a change from the district's former policy of "self insuring" our members. For the new insurance to take effect as soon as possible in the school year, TEA members need to enroll for coverage by August 31, 2011. The new policy can then take effect 30 days later, or October 1, 2011. There will be an enrollment meeting after school at the UAW hall in Woodhaven to explain the process and allow members to fill out and hand in paperwork. MESSA representatives will be in attendance to assist in the process. MESSA will be providing sandwiches and refreshments for the meeting. current union dues structure includes an amount of $35 per year, per member for
our (prior) membership in WC. Subsequent
to our withdrawal from WC on December 9, 2009, your local union leadership has
had many meetings and discussions on how to proceed with that deduction and
payment. According
to our TEA Constitution and By-Laws, Article IV, Section A and F of our By-Laws
states the following: A.
United Professional Dues shall consist of the total of Local, State, and
National dues. Local dues shall be
recommended by the Representative Council and approved by the membership and
added to the State and National dues. F.
The annual local dues may be raised or lowered by vote of the membership
only. Voting shall be by secret
ballot and administered by the Representative Council. With
a vote of your Representative Council, on February 23, 2010, it was decided
to continue the current (WC) dues deduction, as is, for the ’09-10 school year
(making no change for now). We do
have a pro-rated bill from WC for a portion of the ’09-10 school year that
must be paid and several other expenses, including (but not limited to) a Chief
Negotiator stipend, crisis expenses, negotiation team training, Chief Negotiator
training during this round of bargaining and will apply these monies to offset
those expenses. The
Executive and Representative Councils will continue to have discussion on these
dues monies and will have a plan, decision, and/or vote for the membership prior
to the end of the school year. If
you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to contact Laura Trosien, TEA Treasurer at ltrosien@hotmail.com or Darlene Strasser at dstrasser69@hotmail.com Strength
