Career Information
Byron Area High School is a career
pathway high school. We use the six Michigan Career Pathways to help
students take high school classes which will help prepare them for their
post-secondary lives. We have scheduling plans to help students whether
they are planning on working right out of school, entering the military,
or going to college or vocational school. More information about
the six career pathways can be found in the scheduling
packet
or on the
Michigan
government website.
The six Michigan Career Pathways are:
-
Fine Arts and Communication
-
Human Services
-
Health Sciences
-
Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial
Technology
-
Business, Management, and Marketing
-
Natural Resources
We encourage students to explore their career
interests in a variety of ways--through job shadowing, on-line exploration,
career placement tests, and library research. Byron High School students
may access
Career Cruising
on-line. Career Cruising also has a place for students to work on
their Educational Development Plan and their resume. The username
and password can be obtained from the counseling office, the library, or
the computer labs.

Explorer Programs
Exploring is an excellent opportunity for
students to get more information and hands-on experience in jobs. It
is a career education program for young men and women who are 14 (and have
completed 8th grade) or 15 - 20 years old. The purpose is to provide
experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become
responsible and caring adults. Explorer posts can specialize in a
variety of career skills. Their emphasis is on: career opportunities,
life skills, citizenship, character education and leadership experience.
For more information, go to
www.learningforlife.org.
For information on posts in our area, go to
www.tpcbsa.org/Exploring/index.html. Posts include both Argentine
and Linden fire departments, Genesee County Sheriffs Dept, and Baker College
of Flint robotics.
Owosso Memorial Healthcare Job Shadow Days
This is a great opportunity for students in
grades 10 - 12 to
explore the many potential jobs that are available in the medical field.
Students arrive at the hospital at 8:20 am and spend about 3 hours in their
preferred area.
The job shadow dates for 2011/12 are:
October 4, November 8, December 6, January 10, February 7, March 6 and April
10. See Mrs. Smith for an application.
